Edna McEwen’s journey to founding the iYr of Refuge is deeply personal. Having survived domestic violence, she understands the profound impact of abuse and the courage it takes to break free. This firsthand experience ignited a determination to help others facing similar challenges.
Edna received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Educational Equity to gain valuable knowledge in business requirements, societal norms, education, and leadership, all with the goal of providing comprehensive support to women survivors.
Before founding the iYr of Refuge, Edna McEwen held several key positions in nonprofit organizations, including roles as a co-pastor, program director and teacher. These roles allowed her to develop and implement programs that provided critical services such as crisis intervention, counseling, legal advocacy, and education for survivors of abuse.
Edna McEwen boldly established the iYr of Refuge in 2021 with a clear mission to reduce domestic and sexual abuse’s incidence and impact. Under her strong leadership, the organization now offers a wide range of crucial services, including emergency shelter, counseling, legal assistance, and more. Edna McEwen’s unwavering vision is to create a world where every individual can live free from fear and violence, empowering survivors to lead fulfilling, independent lives.
The iYr of Refuge is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive services for women with children who are experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual abuse.
